

Rod Richards is a research academic, journalist, photojournalist, production coordinator, line producer and director. He brings broad experience across government media, including Defence and International Relations, public relations, crisis communications, and electronic newsgathering. A certified adult trainer, Rod has worked across the media sector and has served as a professional soldier, gaining expertise in high stress operational settings. He is a qualified Resilience Shield Mentor, trained to support others in strengthening resilience with evidence based strategies. Rod maintains a strong professional focus on the psychological health of journalists. He understands occupational stress exposure, trauma related risk, cognitive load and the impact of continuous public scrutiny. His work promotes protective factors such as peer support, structured recovery practices and early intervention for mental health concerns, helping media professionals sustain wellbeing and performance over time. He is an accredited member of Australia’s Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance (MEAA).
